The piano accordion is the most common type of accordion
in the United States. It was made popular in San Francisco in the early
part of the 20th century when vaudeville stars Guido and Pietro Diero
performed with an accordion utilizying a piano style keyboard instead
of the usual buttons known in Europe.
This became a craze in accordion design and factories
sprung up in the major cities of America to manufacture them. San
Francisco alone had 10 factories making accordions back in the 1920s.
The
piano-style arrangment is easily learned by those who already know
how to play a piano or organ.
